MadS - that's a good list. We have to come up with our own reasons to hope and live. I'm in the process of doing that now.
I hope to develop a strong authentic self that enjoys life to the full.
i posted this in another thread but it didn't really fit with where the conversation was going, so i'm starting a new thread on it.
below is the hope i feel we all now have.
feel free to share your hopes, as well.. what hope do we have?.

if jws don't have the truth; if there is no paradise earth; if there is no end of this system; if death is all there is, then what hope do we have to look forward too?.
NVL - seems so.
SINS - those are classic bullet points that WT uses to "prove" they are the true religion. You must see that, no?
i doubt very seriously that i am the first to make the connection of exiting jw's and much of the movie "shawshank redemption".. frequently, the injustice that many experience as baptized members of jehovah's witnesses cause them to want to resign, to leave.. but it is a prison of sorts.
if you leave and announce it, you are shunned.
and no one will talk to you.. shawshank is such a remarkable movie to me for its simple, underlying theme; finding meaning in our suffering, and never stopping the fight against injustice, esp against our own freedom.. the best part of the movie is the line "you can either get busy living, or get busy dying.".
I don't really see the connection between the movie and JWs.
"Or am I being obtuse?"
LOL

Those are the answers to questions that WT gave you. Now start asking your own questions.

ty goldensky - i hadn't either. I made it up...... lol. I was trying to think of something to help myself one day when I thought of it.
well i usually attend three district conventions so that i can get the best possible understanding of any new light...... just kidding.
Lots of time with the family.
Pools, beaches, amusement parks, bike riding, picnics, ! As much time as possible outdoors in the sun.
I love summer!!!!! woohoo!
whether you believe in the bible or not, these are not completely separate books with nothing related.. this is the tip of the iceberg, but i wanted to demonstrate why i believe there is a deep hidden message in the bible, and that its books are linked.. does the bible itself reveal who the king of the north is?
(the whole world is trying to 'guess' and 'interpret' and treat all prophecies as individual).
(warning: this could set off a chain reaction and your searching the entire bible linking and getting better understanding of many prophecies ;) ).
(The whole world is trying to 'guess' and 'interpret' and treat all prophecies as individual)
I don't think the whole world is trying to do this. Maybe some people are interested but certainly not the whole world.
(warning: this could set off a chain reaction and your searching the entire bible linking and getting better understanding of many prophecies ;) )
That chain reaction was set off for far too long when I was a witness. I just don't have the energy to do this EoM.
I'm curious as to what you hope to gain from your efforts? Nothing can be proven from the bible. You can find "support" for just about anything you want to if you couch it in the right scripture.
this has been a wt buzzword for a long time but has come up in several recent discussions here.
so, i just had to look it up on the wt library cd-rom.. the word "evidently" appears 1,439 times in the insight books alone.
that number is staggering considering that the two-volume set is supposed to be comprised of encyclopedic facts.
rofl shelby - in all likelihood I couldn't have said it better myself.
to all of you exjws, i'm sure you've been asked this question one way or the other many times and i'm sure the answer is different for many of you, i'd like to know directly from you never having a chance to hear or read many exjw's answers to this.
knowing that you would be cut off from your family and friends and other consequences for your decision to leave, how did you ever get the strength to do it?
i mean really, i find it fascinating to know that there are so many of you who were at one time very devout, if not at the very least loyal to one of the most successful mind-contol organizations ever who believed all if not most of what the society taught and still you found the courage to risk everything once you accepted that it isn't what it claims to be.
I don't know if we were strong. We just couldn't take it anymore. Actually we left after a breakdown of sorts. Our real strength came after we gave ourselves some breathing room from everyone and everything JW related. It was the best thing we ever did for ourselves.

SINS - The longer you believed you would never die and could live forever in paradise the more screwed your thinking is likely to be. Nothing compares to living forever in paradise, right? Everything pales in significance to that illustrious hope doesn't it? But it isn't real. Somebody wrapped up a box all pretty with a bow, handed it to us and said don't open until Armaggedon. Well we decided to open it up sooner and it's empty.
What a disappointment. The anticipation of opening up that gift was overwhelming at times and the fact that it is empty is heartbreaking. But there are other presents to be opened. The wrapping isn't as pretty. But the gifts inside are real.
That's how I try to think about it anyway.
